Home Builders Bulletin

Happy Friday!  I hope you all had a great 4th weekend.  My vacation last week was very expensive!!  Monday evening last week, while we were camping, we received a phone call from my neighbor to let us know that we had a broken water pipe and the city had to shut our water off!  The broken pipe was in the front yard, so I had to have a new water line put in on Wednesday.  Thank you Town & Country Plumbing for getting us water again!

  • There has been some confusion about whether or not licensees will automatically receive a copy of the 2006 the Michigan Residential Code (MRC) with their license renewal. While the Professionalism legislation had a fee that would pay for every licensee to be shipped a copy of the code, the provision (and that fee) were not in the package signed into law by the governor. Every licensee will be responsible for buying her or his own copy of the MRC.  Copies of the 2006 MRC are now available from the International Code Council through this link, which will also allow MAHB members to buy it through the state at the ICC member discount price. (the site, for those of you who get this via fax, is http://www.iccsafe.org, type Michigan Residential Code in the search box and then select the 2006 option that comes up).

  • 2009 IBS registration is open! The 2009 International Builders' Show will be held January 20-23, 2009, Tuesday – Friday, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 65th Annual Convention and Exposition will feature more than 1,700 exhibitors providing the latest and most innovative home building products and services. IBS also offers more than 250 educational sessions led by industry experts and notable business entrepreneurs.  You can register and make their hotel reservations online at http://www.buildersshow.com/Home/.  I am told that the Michigan-delegation hotel is Planet Hollywood (the old Aladdin Hotel on the main strip).  Room rates are going to skyrocket later this year so I’d encourage you to reserve rooms as soon as possible.
