  • The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago is hosting the Midwest Builders Show & Conference.  It will be held March 12-13, 2008 at the Donald E. They are offering our members a complimentary show floor ticket to the event.  The ticket is valid for complimentary access to the exhibit hall, and it can also be used as a discount towards several other registration options.  I have an electronic form of this ticket please get in touch with me if you are interested in taking advantage of their generous offer.

  • MONEY MAGAZINE LOOKING FOR GREAT RENOVATIONS TO FEATURE.  Money magazine is looking for great renovation projects to feature in two upcoming issues. The profile is for a regular Money Magazine section called "Before & After." It's usually a two-page spread, heavy on photographs, and talks about what was done to the home and why it enhanced the home's value. If you think you have a great renovation for Money, email Kate Ashford Carpenter at kate.ashford@yahoo.com ASAP with: 1. Before/after photos, 2. description of the project, 3.how much the house was worth before the renovation (an estimate is fine) and 4.the total cost of the project.  Required Criteria:

    1. Projects must be FAMILY ROOM or ATTIC (turning the attic into livable space) renovations or additions.
    2. The family in the house MUST be interested in being involved--and that means using their names in the article.
    3. There must be at least one great "before" picture.
    4. The project should be reasonably attainable by a middle-class family (no $1 million renovations, please).
    5. Projects must have been done within the past 3 or 4 years.

  • I am looking for pictures of SWMHBA events for slide show presentations during our general membership meetings.  If you have pictures you would like to share, please forward them to me at Valerie@swmhba.com or swmhba@att.net.  I will receive them at either address.  Please include a note telling me what the pictures are of and who is in them as well.
